The Modifiable Areal Unit Problem
The MAUP is a form of statistical bias that defines how study results are influenced by the scale of the the analysis. Study results from a regional analysis with data aggregated to school districts will differ from the same study if senate districts were used instead. The difference can be negligible, but many have demonstrated drastic variations in study results by changing the resolution of the units of analysis.
